Two trains collided south of Cairo on November 8, killing at least four people and injuring nearly 90 others in Egypt's latest railway accident.

The crash occurred in al-Ayyat district in Giza province, approximately 32 miles south of Cairo. According to the Transportation Ministry, a train traveling to the southwestern Fayoum province crashed into the rear of a train heading to the southern province of Aswan. One of the trains derailed, though authorities did not specify which.

The Health Ministry confirmed that at least four people were killed and 88 others were wounded in the collision. Among the fatalities was a train driver. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Presidential Response

President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi expressed his concern following the accident. "I have directed state agencies to provide the necessary medical care, promptly investigate the circumstances of the accident and hold accountable anyone found to have been negligent," he wrote in a social media post.

Aftermath and History

Emergency teams and cranes were dispatched to the scene to clear the wreckage and restore train services to their normal schedule as soon as possible, according to the Egyptian Railway Authority. This incident follows a similar collision in the same district last September, which injured a train driver and his assistant.

Despite Egypt's investments of billions of dollars in transport infrastructure over the past decade, including new highways and high-speed rail lines, much of the country's aging rail network remains in need of overhaul.
