Hyperliquid Recovery: Binance Reopens HYPE Withdrawals After $6.4 Billion Hack
Binance has officially reopened withdrawals for Hyperliquid (HYPE) and Aptos (APT) tokens following the completion of a security audit, restoring full access for users.
Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, resumed withdrawals for Hyperliquid and Aptos tokens on November 8, 2026. The decision was confirmed by Yi He, the platform's co-founder and president, after a thorough audit was completed.
The move ended a week-long pause that disproportionately affected holders of the Hyperliquid native token, HYPE. While other assets were gradually restored starting November 1, HYPE remained the last to become eligible, sparking frustration within the DeFi community.

Cybersecurity Crisis and Market Rivalry
The restoration of withdrawals comes in the wake of the largest cyberattack in history. In November 2025, the North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor exploited Binance's hot wallets, stealing approximately $6.3 billion in just 20 minutes, as confirmed by the FBI and Chainalysis.
Binance responded by freezing $3 billion and pledging to cover 100% of user funds from its SAFU fund. The exchange then began a systematic review of assets across Solana and Ethereum chains, with HYPE being the final token to undergo this process.
The delay in restoring HYPE withdrawals was not merely a security measure but also fueled by a long-standing rivalry between Binance and Hyperliquid. The DeFi platform, a leader in on-chain derivatives trading, has accused Binance of sabotaging its market position since 2025.
Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan publicly accused Binance of manipulating liquidation data after a $40 billion market event in October 2025. In response, Binance delayed the spot listing of HYPE until September 24, 2026, and applied a 'Seed Tag' to the token, typically reserved for high-risk assets.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao rejected the accusations, arguing that strong decentralized exchanges ultimately increase the market 'pie' for the entire industry. The technical complexity of auditing Hyperliquid's custom Layer-1 architecture, HyperEVM, also contributed to the extended review period.
Despite the tensions, Yi He emphasized that the resumption of withdrawals demonstrates that client obligations take precedence over market rivalry. The exchange has now restored full operational freedom for HYPE and APT users.
