Iran: US strikes ship after Hormuz blockade breach
The United States struck a commercial ship attempting to breach its naval blockade on Iran, the US military said Sunday.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the cargo vessel "tried to depart regional waters after visiting an Iranian port" before its stern was struck by "precision munitions" shot from a US military aircraft.
A video posted by CENTCOM showed an explosion on the M/V Huda's stern, with the ship's civilian crew ignoring "repeated warnings."
Authorities in the UAE said 22 people had been rescued due to a fire on a vessel in the Gulf of Oman.
Escalation in the Strait of Hormuz
The US naval blockade on Iran, intended to pressure the country into lifting its own blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, has been in force for months.
Iran's own blockade of the waterway, through which a fifth of the world's oil and gas supplies flowed before the war started in late February, saw energy prices spike around the world.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said three "non-compliant" oil tankers caught fire while going through the Strait.
Missile attacks in Saudi Arabia
Elsewhere in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted incoming missiles shot in the direction of the capital, Riyadh, on Sunday.
Debris from the interception damaged a building belonging to state-owned oil company Aramco. No casualties were reported, but some of the building's floors were heavily damaged.
Saudi Arabia accused Yemen-based militant group Houthis of launching two ballistic missiles and two cruise missiles.
