Frontier Airlines refund email scam uses real flight details explained - Attack of the Fanboy
A TikToker has exposed a convincing phishing scam targeting Frontier Airlines customers, with emails containing real flight details but asking for credit card confirmation.
TikToker Jay Ayers is warning Frontier Airlines customers about a sophisticated phishing scam that uses real flight details to trick recipients into sharing credit card information. The email promised him a $387.90 refund for a flight he had taken more than six months earlier, with legitimate information about his previous travel.
Ayers discovered the scam was fake when he noticed the sender's email address was [email protected] and the email asked him to confirm his card details, which he recognized as an immediate red flag. 'I'm not gonna lie, it was kind of good. But it's messed up, and they're trying to get you to put your card info in. Be careful,' Ayers said in his video.
Real details, fake refund
The scam emails contain accurate information about actual flights customers have taken on Frontier, including the exact refund amounts. Several commenters reported nearly falling for the scam, with one noting the email had the exact amount they paid. However, some customers were not as fortunate, with one writing, 'I literally fell for it. I'm so annoyed!'
Airline response
Frontier Airlines has confirmed it is aware of the phishing campaign and is conducting a thorough assessment with external experts. The airline has alerted customers through email, its website, and its app. 'We are aware of an active email phishing campaign targeting some of our customers,' a Frontier spokesperson said.
Frontier advises customers not to click anything in suspicious emails, not to enter payment or personal information, and not to reply. The airline emphasizes it will never contact customers asking them to revalidate flights, re-enter credit card information, or provide payment details to receive a refund.
View From The Wing advises anyone who already entered their card information to contact their card issuer, lock the card, and arrange a replacement. Customers with legitimate issues involving Frontier flights should go directly through the airline's official website or contact Frontier directly.
