NVIDIA is preparing a new version of its Blackwell graphics accelerator with a 24GB video buffer for an official unveiling at CES in early 2027.

Since the entire Super series has been effectively canceled, simply calling the device the GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB would be too trivial, so the new card will likely be released as the GeForce RTX 5080 Ti.

The graphics card will retain the base GB203 GPU in its full configuration with 10752 CUDA cores, but will have a power consumption limit increased from 360 W to 450 W.

A 25% increase in power alone won't yield a significant boost in computing power due to the physical limitations of the die.

Performance boost from memory

The real performance boost for the upcoming GeForce RTX 5080 Ti will come not from a direct injection of an extra 90W into the chip without increasing the core count, but from an upgraded GDDR7 video memory subsystem.

Instead of the standard 16GB, the graphics card will receive a 24GB buffer, comprised of new 3GB modules while maintaining a 256-bit bus.

The memory chip speed will increase from 28 Gbps to 32 Gbps, bringing the total throughput to over 1 TB/s and reaching 1024 GB/s.

This accelerated memory will give this graphics card a real boost in raw performance of approximately 10% at 4K resolution compared to the base version.

Market positioning and availability

This boost will allow the new card to almost match the performance of the previous-generation GeForce flagship, the RTX 4090, with comparable power consumption.

The release of the 24GB GeForce RTX 5080 Ti in early 2027 is explained by the need to maintain a formal image product for gamers amid the virtual end of supply of the consumer GeForce RTX 5090.

The nominal recommended price is expected to be around $1500, which is approximately $100 cheaper than the GeForce RTX 4090, or the company will refuse to announce an official price.

Given the ongoing AI boom, the actual retail price of the new product will easily exceed the flagship's recommended price and reach between $2200 and $4000.

At launch, the graphics card will be virtually impossible to find due to extremely limited supply.
