Warsaw Stock Exchange Taps XTB to Bring Foreign Retail Investors to Polish Stocks
The Warsaw Stock Exchange has partnered with brokerage firm XTB to allow EU clients direct access to Warsaw-listed shares without additional applications, expanding beyond Polish retail investors.
EU clients of XTB can now purchase Warsaw-listed shares without the extra application previously required, the broker and Warsaw Stock Exchange announced on Friday. Until October, only XTB clients in Poland had automatic access to Warsaw-listed instruments on its platform, while retail investors elsewhere needed to submit a separate request first.
The cooperation runs under a Warsaw Stock Exchange program aimed at exchange members that serve foreign retail investors. XTB will also conduct information and promotional campaigns about the Polish market, following what it calls its biggest ad campaign in history launched last month.
Expanding Client Base
XTB brings the Warsaw Stock Exchange a client base already split between Poland and abroad. According to FM Intelligence data, the Central Securities Depository of Poland counted more than 3 million brokerage accounts at the end of September, with 1.285 million held at XTB, up from 2,856,520 accounts in May.
Poland generated 54.4% of XTB's 2025 revenue, while the company serves clients internationally. XTB reports more than 3.2 million people use its investing app, with Indonesia now being its second-largest source of new accounts after Poland.
Attracting Foreign Investment
The Warsaw Stock Exchange aims to increase its international profile by attracting foreign retail investors through brokers like XTB. The exchange highlighted this year's strong performance, with the WIG20 index rising more than 34% since January and the mWIG40 gaining 30%, compared to less than 13% for the S&P 500 over the same period.
XTB has been listed on the Warsaw exchange since 2016 and recently reported that its third-quarter profit quadrupled from a year earlier. The partnership specifically mentions Warsaw-listed companies with international business operations, including CD Projekt, Benefit Systems, and LPP, as examples that could attract foreign investors.
Future Expansion Plans
The pilot program currently covers EU clients, with no specific date provided for expansion to clients outside the European Union. Previously, clients in France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the UK, Portugal, Romania and Spain used the separate application process to access Warsaw-listed instruments.
XTB's international reach and large user base present a significant opportunity for the Warsaw Stock Exchange to increase its visibility and trading volume. The exchange hopes this partnership will help establish Warsaw as a more attractive destination for international retail investors seeking exposure to European markets.
