Japan announces emergency cybersecurity package following a wave of attacks | National News | 2news.com - KTVN
Japan announced a $63 million emergency cybersecurity package on Friday, following a wave of massive data breaches affecting major companies and government agencies.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi emphasized the need for rapid response in the era of AI-generated attacks, urging both government agencies and companies to enhance their preparedness. The announcement comes as dozens of organizations have experienced unauthorized access and data leaks, causing significant disruption across Japan.
Active Defense Measures
The 10 billion yen package includes enhanced capabilities for accessing hacker servers through "active cyber defense," a practice legalized in October. This preemptive measure will be supported by cross-agency teams from the Defense Ministry, National Police Agency, and National Cybersecurity Office in cases of national security threats.
Expert Teams Deployment
By the end of November, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will establish a "top gun" team of cybersecurity experts using AI to counter hackers and identify network vulnerabilities. This team will collaborate with technology companies and international AI developers to maintain cutting-edge security capabilities.
Additionally, a "cyber rescue team" composed of public and private sector experts will provide immediate responses to affected companies, while separate teams will assist vulnerable organizations in strengthening their defenses.
