Nvidia tightens tracking of AI GPUs in Southeast Asia as Chinese chip smuggling draws scrutiny, report claims
Nvidia is requiring Southeast Asia computing providers to register with its Fleet Intelligence tracking system to become official Nvidia Cloud Partners, amid concerns about AI accelerators being smuggled to China.
The move comes as Washington grows increasingly frustrated with restricted hardware finding its way into China through regional smuggling networks. Nvidia's Fleet Intelligence tracking system will provide the company with greater visibility into where its AI accelerators are deployed across Southeast Asia.
Smuggling concerns
The requirement for cloud providers to register with the tracking system represents a significant tightening of Nvidia's control over its AI hardware distribution. The company was not immediately available for comment on the new policy.
