Solana's Skyline Crypto Ad Triggers Central Bank Investigation in China
Chinese authorities have launched an investigation against Solana after the blockchain platform's aggressive marketing campaign in Shanghai, including a massive SOL token projection on a skyscraper in the financial district.
A joint operation between the People's Bank of China and Shanghai police has cracked down on Solana's Accelerate China 2026 four-day tour, blocking events and launching an investigation against local helpers who assisted with logistics and public relations for the blockchain platform.
The harsh reaction from Chinese authorities was triggered by what they described as 'too aggressive' offline marketing tactics. On October 14, a team associated with Solana, working with Shanghai contractors, projected giant vibrant logos of the SOL token onto the Citigroup Tower in Shanghai's Lujiazui financial district.
