More than 90% of stocks targeted by OKX and NYSE-backed tokenization venture now face objections from their issuers, threatening the project before launch.

A comparison of OKXICE's latest regulatory notice with its original October proposal reveals that companies have objected to 57 of the 63 stock tickers initially earmarked for trading. The objections, which have grown to 67 companies overall, threaten to strip the proposed blockchain-based marketplace of many of Wall Street's most widely traded names before its launch.

Corporate Resistance Grows

The scale of the resistance has expanded rapidly since OKX outlined its plans in early October. By October 30, 50 companies had registered objections. That figure rose to 62 by November 4 before another five companies, including Meta, Palantir, S&P Global, KLA and Super Micro Computer, joined the list on November 5.

Of the original 62 companies identified by OKXICE, 56 have now objected. The original proposal covered 63 tickers because Alphabet's two share classes were listed separately. That leaves just six companies from the initial lineup without disclosed objections: Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle, Securitize, BitGo, and Strategy.

All six have substantial connections to the cryptocurrency or digital asset industry, highlighting how far the venture's potential stock selection has shifted from the broader US equity market.

Regulatory Framework

The resistance is particularly significant because of how the SEC structured its September exemption. Under the framework, companies whose shares are tokenized by unaffiliated third parties must receive written notice and an opportunity to object. A formal objection prevents the venue from offering those third-party tokenized shares under the exemption.

The framework leaves room for issuer-backed tokenization, meaning the objections do not necessarily represent opposition to blockchain-based securities in general. Nevertheless, OKXICE has yet to announce a launch date or confirm how many stocks will ultimately be available.

Liquidity Challenges

Even if OKXICE secures a viable selection of stocks, it faces another challenge: attracting enough capital to support trading. The tokenization venture disclosed that neither it nor its affiliates will provide liquidity to its proposed marketplace.

According to Dune's After Issuance report, the median decentralized trading pool for tokenized equities held just $92 as of August 31. Across 5,484 pools containing $69 million in assets, just 78 pools accounted for approximately $56 million, or 81% of the measured holdings.

This shows how concentrated liquidity remains across decentralized equity markets, despite growing interest in bringing traditional securities on-chain.

Trading Model Concerns

OKXICE plans to use Uniswap v4-based pools on OKX's XLayer blockchain, where tokenized shares will trade against stablecoins through approved wallets. Unlike conventional stock exchanges that match buyers and sellers through order books, the proposed system relies on assets deposited into pools to execute trades.

Insufficient capital in those pools could cause significant price slippage, particularly when investors try to execute large transactions or sell positions during market volatility. That creates a significant challenge for a venture promising access to US equities beyond Wall Street's regular trading hours.

OKXICE must now overcome substantial issuer resistance while convincing outside market participants to finance trading in whatever tokenized stocks remain available. Its eventual launch will provide the first meaningful test of whether the venue can assemble enough eligible securities and trading capital to deliver on its round-the-clock ambitions.
