Seven people arrested in Glasgow after Bonfire Night violence across Scotland
Seven people were arrested in Glasgow after violence during Bonfire Night in Scotland, where fireworks were launched at emergency services and a police vehicle was set alight.
Police and an ambulance crew were responding to a report of an injured man in Greenside Street, Glasgow, when they were attacked with fireworks. A police vehicle was set alight and seriously damaged during the incident, which occurred shortly before 8pm on November 5th.
Fireworks were also thrown at members of the public in Clydebank, while attacks on fire crews were reported in Knightswood, Castlemilk, Cumnock, Larkhall, and Blackridge. Firefighters in Edinburgh's south were forced to withdraw due to antisocial behavior while attending bin fires.
Operation Amberlight
Police Scotland mounted its biggest deployment of officers since President Trump's visit to Aberdeenshire in 2025, calling in assistance from forces in England and Wales. Officers from Avon and Somerset, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, and south Wales were deployed to Scotland.
During this time both crews were targeted with fireworks resulting in a police vehicle being set alight and seriously damaged. One of the ambulance staff sustained a minor injury.
Increased incidents
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received over 800 calls relating to fireworks and bonfires between 5.30pm and 11.30pm on November 5th. Between Halloween and Bonfire Night, police received 1,024 fireworks-related calls, up from 833 in 2025.
Despite the increase in calls, police noted a reduction in the number of incidents requiring specialist public order responses across the country. Police maintained a presence in affected areas as inquiries continued.
