Workstations have bad battery life? Think again! Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 laptop review - Notebookcheck

The Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 laptop has been put through rigorous testing, revealing performance metrics that defy conventional expectations for workstations. The device demonstrated read speeds ranging from 9471 MB/s to an impressive 13967 MB/s, while write speeds reached up to 13496 MB/s in various benchmark tests.

Performance Metrics

Testing revealed consistent performance across different workloads. The laptop showed read speeds of 9471 MB/s with minimal variation (9420.23-9471.09 MB/s), while write speeds reached 9931 MB/s (4713.57-9930.71 MB/s). Most notably, sequential read performance peaked at 13967 MB/s (13046-13967.2 MB/s), with corresponding write speeds of 13496 MB/s (1928.04-13495.6 MB/s).

Random performance also showed strong results, with read speeds of 5313 MB/s (5248.41-5312.89 MB/s) and write speeds of 3541 MB/s (3514.91-3540.62 MB/s), with some tests showing a +16% improvement over previous models.

Battery Performance

Contrary to typical workstation limitations, the ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 maintained respectable battery performance during testing. Sequential write speeds decreased gradually from 230 MB/s (173.15-229.93 MB/s) to 129.8 MB/s (127.79-129.79 MB/s) under increasing load, representing a 44% reduction from baseline.

The laptop's battery performance was particularly notable in random write tests, where speeds remained relatively stable at 93.5 MB/s (92.2-93.53 MB/s) under optimal conditions, dropping to 43.7 MB/s (43.01-43.71 MB/s) at maximum load - a 53% reduction that still outperforms many competitors in its class.
