IG Cancels 24.5 Million Treasury Shares After £32.9 Million Buyback
IG Group Holdings has cancelled 24,522,153 treasury shares on November 5, 2026, reducing its issued share capital to 337,035,715 shares after repurchasing shares worth approximately £32.9 million.
The cancellation took place on November 5, 2026, according to a regulatory announcement issued under UK Listing Rule. Each cancelled share had a nominal value of 0.005 pence. Following the cancellation, IG no longer holds any shares in treasury.
The company's total number of shares carrying voting rights now stands at 337,035,715. IG said shareholders should use this figure as the denominator when calculating whether they need to notify the company of their shareholdings or changes to their interests under the Financial Conduct Authority's Disclosure Guidance and Transparency Rules.
The cancellation relates to shares already held in treasury and does not represent a new share purchase or sale by the company. IG has previously used share buybacks to return capital to shareholders.
Share Buyback Program
In March 2026, IG announced a £125 million repurchase programme which began on April 1 and was split into two tranches of up to £62.5 million each. Morgan Stanley was appointed to execute the purchases, with the acquired shares initially held in treasury.
The programme was subsequently cancelled after IG announced its proposed acquisition of US prediction markets operator Underdog in July. By August 3, IG had repurchased 1,994,774 shares under the programme for approximately £32.9 million.
Executive Share Purchases
The cancellation follows recent share purchases by IG's senior executives. CEO Breon Corcoran bought 70,000 shares in two transactions in October, spending approximately £661,913. He purchased 30,000 shares at £9.45 each and a further 40,000 at an average of £9.46.
Both executives made their purchases on the London Stock Exchange. Their combined purchases totalled 80,000 shares worth approximately £756,312.
Separately, CFO Clifford Abrahams bought 10,000 shares at £9.44 each, paying approximately £94,399. The transactions followed a 27% fall in IG's share price after the company lowered its revenue growth outlook for 2026.
