SpaceX's plan to build more data center compute than Google's entire lifetime capacity in just 1.5 years is possible, say analysts
SpaceX plans to build 10 gigawatts of data center capacity in 2027 alone, a target analysts say is realistic, potentially exceeding Google's entire lifetime output in just 1.5 years.
SpaceX aims to construct a staggering 10 gigawatts of data center compute in 2027, a goal that would see the company add more capacity in 1.5 years than Google has built in its entire existence.
The company currently operates at 3 GW, and the new target would make it the fastest-building hyperscaler globally, far outpacing other major cloud providers.
Analysts see realistic path
Analysts at Semiaccurate argue the target is achievable, pointing to the rapid development of SpaceX's Colossus facilities as evidence of its construction capabilities.
The site tracks 9 GW of potential capacity across its sites, including Colossus and Starbase facilities.
Colossus buildout accelerating
Progress is evident in the Colossus 2 facility, whose power generation capacity jumped from 0.4 GW in January to a projected 2.4 GW by the end of the year.
This acceleration, driven by the rapid deployment of relevant hardware, supports the analysts' assessment of SpaceX's construction speed.
