Team Group CEO warns memory crisis could reach point where 'even money can't buy goods' — will get worse next year, with 'no downward trend in price whatsoever'
Team Group CEO Chen Ching-wen warns the memory chip shortage will become worse from late 2026 through 2027, with prices showing no downward trend.
Team Group CEO Chen Ching-wen has issued a stark warning about the ongoing memory chip shortage, predicting it will worsen significantly from the end of 2026 until the end of 2027. During the company's November 2 earnings call, Chen emphasized that there is "no downward price trend whatsoever" for memory chips.
How can prices fall when there's nothing left?
The executive highlighted the severity of the situation by noting that some purchasers could face scenarios "even money can't buy goods" due to extreme supply constraints. Chen also revealed that the spread between spot and contract prices for memory chips currently ranges from 30% to 50%, indicating short-term supply is substantially more expensive than long-term agreements.
