A Week After Binance Hack, ZachXBT Estimates $133 Million Crypto Theft at France's Arkéa - bloomingbit
France's Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has suffered a suspected cryptocurrency theft of more than $133 million, according to blockchain investigator ZachXBT.
The banking group Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has acknowledged a hacking attack but has not disclosed whether the stolen funds were fiat currency or cryptocurrency. The bank stated that customers suffered no financial losses from the incident.
To prevent further losses, Arkéa temporarily suspended some transactions and notified the relevant authorities about the breach.
ZachXBT first disclosed on November 2 signs that more than $106 million in assets had been stolen from a European institution.
He later identified an additional $27 million in withdrawals from centralized exchanges, raising the estimated loss to more than $133 million. The total could be higher if over-the-counter transactions are included.
