The incident occurred in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies. Tehran's claim comes amid heightened tensions following the US strikes on Iranian targets announced by President Trump.

Discussions to end the conflict between Washington and Tehran via mediators have continued with little sign of diplomatic breakthrough, raising concerns about further escalation in the region.
