NVIDIA adds DLSS 5 to RTX Remix to update older games — Engadget - UA.NEWS
NVIDIA has added its DLSS 5 neural rendering technology to the RTX Remix platform, enabling modders to upgrade classic games with modern graphics.
RTX Remix, a free tool for updating classic games with modern graphics, now includes DLSS 5.
The new feature uses neural rendering to improve character lighting and texture quality, and it has also been added to NVIDIA’s RTX Spark system-on-a-chip.
Official support for DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled for November 5.
Performance impact
Early third-party tools with neural rendering enabled caused frame rate drops of 30–60%.
After the NBA 2K27 update, performance at 1440p resolution declined by approximately 25%.
However, the Engadget author reported improved performance in Control and Metal Gear Solid 4 after updating NVIDIA’s beta driver.
In Control, frame rates rose from approximately 80 to nearly 100 frames per second at 4K and maximum settings with DLSS 5.
In Metal Gear Solid 4, the average frame rate increased from less than 55 to around 70 frames per second.
Without DLSS 5, the frame rate exceeded 120 frames per second in both games.
Compatibility issues
DLSS 5 mods may be incompatible with games that use anti-cheat software.
The Engadget author was unable to launch GTA V: Enhanced Edition with the modification due to mandatory BattlEye.
Third-party applications like DLSS 5 Manager and DLSS 5 Swapper work with projects based on Vulkan and DirectX 9, 10, 11, and 12.
