Dell's PowerEdge R770 server with Intel Xeon 6 processors can complete 110 financial-services AI agent tasks per minute without requiring a GPU, according to testing by Principled Technologies.

For organizations looking to deploy agentic AI, a new testing report commissioned by Dell Technologies shows that a general-purpose server can handle demanding AI workloads without specialized hardware. The Dell PowerEdge R770, equipped with Intel Xeon 6 processors, successfully completed 110 financial-services AI agent tasks per minute within a 30-second target timeframe during testing by Principled Technologies.

The testing demonstrated that organizations can avoid the long lead times, significant power and cooling demands, and steep learning curves associated with specialized accelerator platforms. Instead, they can leverage familiar server infrastructure to run complex AI workloads efficiently.

Performance Metrics

At 30 concurrent tasks, the Dell PowerEdge R770 completed approximately 6,650 agent tasks per hour, with the 95th-percentile task time measured at 28.06 seconds—within the 30-second service level deemed acceptable for work where people are waiting for results. At this rate, an 8-hour working day would yield roughly 53,000 agent tasks for the mixed workload.

A server that posts a large aggregate number by queuing work deeply will feel slow to everyone waiting in that queue.

Technical Implementation

The server ran the Qwen3-8B model at INT4 weight precision using Intel OpenVINO Model Server 2026.4.1. The implementation utilized one processor for the model while dedicating the other to AI agents, analysis code, document search, and a PostgreSQL database. Intel's Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) built into each Xeon 6 core were instrumental in achieving these results.

The report emphasizes measuring both throughput and latency together, noting that beyond 30 concurrent tasks, increased load led to queuing rather than improved performance. However, the chassis can accommodate up to two 450W double-width GPUs or six 75W single-width cards if demand outgrows the processors' capabilities.

According to the findings, "That makes the R770 a reasonable place to start your agentic AI journey on Intel Xeon 6 processors with Intel AMX and a reasonable place to stay for workloads of this shape."
