Proofpoint® Named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Digital Communications Governance and Archiving Solutions

The recognition marks the third consecutive year Proofpoint has achieved this positioning in Gartner's evaluation of digital communications governance and archiving solutions. The company emphasized two key use cases from the report: AI communications governance and investigations, which have become increasingly critical as enterprises adopt AI tools across their workforce.

AI communications governance

As AI becomes integrated into business operations, it creates new communication channels that must be managed for regulatory compliance and legal liability. Enterprises are grappling with questions about which AI interactions need to be captured and how to apply governance policies to people, assistants, and agents.

Proofpoint highlighted its acquisition of Acuity earlier this year, which augmented its capabilities with AI runtime protection. The company also announced the industry's first Agentic Data and AI Security System at Proofpoint Protect, demonstrating capabilities for zero-touch detection, instant investigation, and protection optimization.

The company's approach combines communications governance and security context, applying intelligence across communications, behavior, data, and AI interactions to understand risk. Recent enhancements include the ability to capture and analyze potential insider risk insights from AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini.

Investigations capabilities

Proofpoint emphasized its commitment to fast investigation capabilities, backing average archive search performance with a financial SLA. If the company doesn't meet defined performance thresholds, customers are entitled to a service credit, providing a measurable commitment to search speed.

The company's Prism Investigator is designed to move investigations from search-driven workflows toward autonomous event reconstruction. Using natural language interaction, autonomous actions, and explainability, it helps investigators quickly understand what happened across multiple channels and data sources.

Initially launched with Proofpoint Archive, Prism now supports direct collection from Microsoft 365. As AI assistants become part of everyday business, investigations will need to establish not only what people communicated, but what AI systems accessed, generated, and acted upon.
