Hyperliquid (HYPE) Rallies as CFTC Approves First-Ever US Stock Perpetuals
Hyperliquid's native token (HYPE) rallied following the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) historic approval of perpetual futures on individual stocks.
The regulatory decision effectively legitimizes a product that primarily developed in decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems and opens the door for institutional expansion of Hyperliquid's infrastructure. According to the CFTC release of November 3, 2026, equity perpetual contracts have been classified as security futures under joint CFTC and SEC oversight, with permission to trade on dual-registered exchanges.
Regulatory Shift
The agency aims to bring billions in trading volume back to the U.S. legal framework that had been flowing to offshore crypto platforms. The instrument is being launched under the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 (CFMA), which eliminates the need for new legislation.
Today, equity perps can begin trading for the first time on @CFTC registered exchanges. This move reflects my commitment to ensuring that America's markets remain the most innovative, liquid, and well-regulated in the world.
Market Impact
The CFTC classification aligns with the structure that Hyperliquid's Policy Center had advocated in official submissions to authorities. Through its HIP-3 framework, particularly the trade[XYZ] platform, Hyperliquid already controls the largest on-chain market for perpetuals on Apple, Nvidia, and Tesla, with daily turnover in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Future Prospects
Financial giant ICE (owner of the NYSE), which previously invested in trade[XYZ], now has a legal basis for creating a regulated American platform using Hyperliquid technology. Meanwhile, Payward (Kraken's parent company) is accelerating the launch of a similar product through the regulated exchange Bitnomial.
Despite the U.S. legalization, Hyperliquid maintains strict geoblocking for American residents, continuing to serve the global market with its key advantages: on-chain liquidity, 24/7 trading, and flexible margin conditions. The market immediately priced these prospects into HYPE's value, with TradingView charts recording a vertical surge in the HYPE/USD pair after the announcement at 14:02 UTC. The price broke out of the $84.9-$85.30 range, tested a local high above $87.40, and consolidated around $86.83, holding a net gain of more than 2%.
