Trump says Israel will stop receiving $4B in US aid by year's end, can still buy weapons
President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States will stop providing $4 billion in annual aid to Israel at the close of the year.
Trump made the announcement during an appearance on 'Fox & Friends' on Election Day morning.
He said the support, which includes 'things and money,' is military aid provided as cash or 'barter.'
The president argued that Israel is a 'very thriving country' and does not need the assistance.
Agreement and future steps
The current U.S.-Israel security assistance agreement provides about $3.8 billion annually through 2028.
Trump stated that he and Netanyahu had discussed ending the assistance for years, with Netanyahu raising the idea.
Netanyahu has previously said he wants to phase out Israel’s reliance on U.S. military aid, though the timing and terms of any change to the agreement have not been detailed.
