Brazilian crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin suspended deposits and withdrawals on Monday after more than $40 million left its wallets overnight, according to security firm Hypernative.

The exchange confirmed the incident in a statement on X, saying it had identified and quickly contained a security incident in one of its systems early Monday morning. MB emphasized that customers suffered no losses and no customer data leaked during the breach.

Our teams are mobilized investigating the case, tracking the assets and coordinating measures with the competent authorities, the company stated.

Cross-Chain Transfers

Hypernative reported the suspicious transfers ran across at least 10 blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Tron. The first suspicious transfer occurred at 2:15 UTC, with the largest transfers happening between 6:19 and 6:53 UTC when MB wallets sent most funds to newly created addresses.

Frozen Assets

MB published five destination addresses linked to the incident across various networks. The Bitcoin address received about 106 BTC early Monday, with most coming in one transfer of 104.4 BTC at 6:41 UTC. Tether has blacklisted two attacker addresses on Ethereum and Tron, freezing the USDT inside them.

The Tron address holds 708,243 USDT, while the Ethereum address contains more than 3 million. This breach follows Binance's $6.3 billion loss from its hot wallets on October 29, which Hypernative called the largest crypto theft on record.
