Russian bombing of Ukrainian aid centre kills 24 people: Zelenskyy
A Russian bomb attack on an aid center in Ukraine killed 24 people in the village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhia region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Monday.
The strikes destroyed a school used as a humanitarian center, with five other people reported injured. Footage from Ukrainian emergency services showed a building reduced to piles of smouldering rubble as rescuers worked at the site.
Double strike
President Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram that after the first air strike, there was a repeat strike with nine more bombs, directly on the shelter where people were gathered.
Casualties and aftermath
Among those killed were a police officer and two State Emergency Service rescuers, regional Governor Mykhailo Semikin reported. He added that 27 altogether are considered missing.
Zelenskyy commented that after the humanitarian operation in Oleshky, there was a moment when progress toward peace seemed possible, but with these killings, Russia is sending an entirely opposite signal.
Wider attacks
Elsewhere in Ukraine, emergency services reported drone strikes injured 12 people in the eastern Kharkiv region and damaged a refrigeration facility, greenhouses and residential buildings. Five people were also injured in Odesa where a warehouse was targeted.
Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed it shot down 212 Ukrainian drones overnight, while Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev reported local air defences repelled an aerial attack without giving details.
