Binance says $6.34 billion hack recovery came entirely from its own balance sheet
Binance has fully covered $6.34 billion in user losses from a major security breach using only its internal resources, without borrowing or selling assets.
On October 31, 2026, Binance disclosed it allocated US$6.34 billion from its corporate treasury to replenish user funds after the breach. The exchange assured users they would not suffer any losses from the attack, considered one of the largest in Binance's history.
Internal sources
The replenishment drew on three internal sources: the Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), a portion of the futures insurance fund, and the company's own reserves. By November 1, approximately 90% of the financial impact had been covered, up from earlier estimates of 80%.
Ten specific assets had reached 100% full reserve backing as of October 31, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether's USDT, BNB, Solana's SOL, USDC, XRP, USD1, Ripple's RLUSD, and Zcash's ZEC.
Verification process
Binance published a new Proof of Reserves snapshot on October 31, with full zero-knowledge proofs expected on November 3. This cryptographic method allows users to confirm their balances are included in Binance's liabilities without exposing individual account details.
For tokens not yet fully covered, Binance has committed to continue purchasing on open markets and through over-the-counter desks, though no firm deadline has been set for the remaining shortfall.
