Solana Officially Scores 1,000 Days Without Outage
Solana has officially marked 1,000 days without a network-wide outage, a significant milestone for a blockchain once plagued by frequent disruptions.
This feat stands in stark contrast to Solana's past, when the blockchain experienced several notable network disruptions. The most significant outages occurred in September 2021, when a spike in bot traffic led to a 17-hour network halt, and in April 2022, when an NFT mint caused a 7-hour outage.
Other major incidents included a June 2022 bug that stopped block production for 4.5 hours, a September 2022 fork causing a 6-hour halt, and a February 2023 event when abnormal block forwarding overwhelmed the network's Turbine system.
Engineering Improvements
Solana has implemented numerous updates to improve network reliability, including stake-weighted quality of service to prioritize traffic from staked validators, QUIC networking innovations for better spam handling, and deduplication logic updates following the 2023 outage.
The network has also introduced a local fee market and scheduling improvements to discourage duplicate transactions from users and bots.
Demonstrating Resilience
Solana has emphasized network resilience in recent updates, noting 100% uptime since February 2024. In August 2026, when a routing failure caused validators representing nearly 29% of the network's stake to go offline, block production continued without interruption.
For Solana, this 1,000-day milestone demonstrates that a network once mocked for outages can now support serious financial and on-chain use cases, marking a significant achievement in its engineering progress.
