Ukraine Air Raid App Hack Sends False Nuclear And Chemical Warnings After Russia Cyberattack - NewsCord
False nuclear and chemical warnings flooded Ukraine's air raid alert app following a hack, while Russia claimed its emergency app was hit by a massive cyberattack.
Ukraine's air raid alert app was compromised, sending false warnings about nuclear and chemical threats around Kyiv, including erroneous messages about Russia's hypersonic Oreshnik missile deployment. Hours later, Russia's Emergencies Ministry reported its emergency warnings app came under a "massive cyberattack." Both nations claimed their respective systems were hacked amid ongoing cyber warfare between the countries.
False Alerts Spread
The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the hack on Telegram, stating "The air alert app appears to have been subjected to enemy influence." Russia said its app breach allowed attackers to spread "false information" to users, though it emphasized its broader public warning system remained unaffected. Ukraine's Centre for Strategic Communications blamed Russia for the hack directly.

Truce Ends, War Resumes
The cyber incidents followed the expiration of a six-day truce in the Russian-occupied Kherson region. Ukraine's military evacuated 167 people from threatened areas as the local ceasefire ended. President Zelenskiy reported Russia targeted energy infrastructure in four Ukrainian regions, causing power outages for hundreds of thousands of homes.
Zelenskiy also confirmed Ukraine struck the Kaminsky plant in Russia's Rostov region, while Moscow remained silent on this attack. Military exchanges continued with Russia claiming to have shot down 235 Ukrainian drones overnight, and Ukraine reporting it had downed 371 of 433 Russian long-range drones since Saturday evening.
Patriot-Linked Conditions
In an interview with Fox News, Zelenskiy linked Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil refineries to the provision of Patriot interceptor missiles: "We said that if you want us not to attack Russia's refineries, they have not to attack our energy system." He added Ukraine would find funding for the missiles even without aid.
Meanwhile, the United States was supporting a quick resumption of Russian natural gas exports to Europe via Ukrainian pipelines as part of energy ceasefire talks. Russia's share in European gas supply had dropped to about 11% from 45% before the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
