Brainchip has introduced a Raspberry Pi 5 development kit that integrates its AKD1500 M.2 module for event-based neuromorphic AI.

The Brainchip AKD1500 Raspberry Pi 5 Dev Kit includes a Raspberry Pi 5 8GB, an official M.2 HAT+ expansion card, and the Akida AKD1500 M.2 B+M-Key card. All components are housed in a metal case that exposes most of the Raspberry Pi 5's ports, including the Gigabit Ethernet port, four USB connectors, two HDMI video outputs, and the USB-C power port. The design also features openings for the Raspberry Pi 5 power button and an LED on the M.2 HAT+.

Simplified development

This kit aims to simplify the process of evaluating and developing applications using Brainchip's neuromorphic AI technology. The AKD1500 module is designed for low-power and low-latency performance, which is a key advantage for certain AI workloads.

Hardware requirements

The dev kit requires a camera for operation, but it does not include a standard MIPI CSI-based Raspberry Pi Camera module. Users must provide their own compatible camera to complete the setup.
