Ukraine's air raid alert system hacked, Air Force says as false nuclear, chemical warnings sound - The Kyiv Independent
Ukraine's air raid alert system was hacked late on November 1, 2026, triggering false warnings about nuclear and chemical threats across the country.
The Air Alert app, developed in collaboration between the Digital Transformation Ministry and security technology company Ajax Systems, sent false notifications to users. One message read, 'Hi! A nuclear alert is about to go off all across Ukraine! Don't worry, the Oreshnik is on its way,' in Russian.
It is likely that the 'Air Alert' app has been compromised by the enemy. There is no radiation threat! Please stay calm and follow our updates on our (Telegram) channel.
False alerts and official warnings
Sirens and false alerts were reported across the country, including in Zakarpattia Oblast in western Ukraine. Regional governors warned that the system was hacked and that there was no threat. The Vinnytsia Oblast Governor Natalia Zabolotna reported that the cyberattack could involve a phishing operation with attached links.

System restored and advice for citizens
We once again urge citizens not to click on links from unknown sources and not to spread unverified information.
The false alerts were cleared about an hour later. By midnight local time, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said the nationwide alert system was back to operating normally. Officials urged citizens to continue monitoring information from local authorities and to avoid clicking on links from unknown sources.
