Northstar Security Exits Stealth With $7M to Expose Toxic Risk Combinations - SecurityWeek
Northstar Security, a startup developing AI agents for security teams, has emerged from stealth mode with $7 million in seed funding led by Wing Venture Capital.
The company ingests data from existing security and IT tools to build a Security Context Graph that shows how identities, assets, applications, vulnerabilities, and business systems connect in real time. Northstar aims to catch so-called toxic combinations where individual security issues might seem under control but together expose critical business systems.
Toxic Risk Detection
For instance, the platform could flag a laptop lacking endpoint protection whose owner is a privileged user able to reach a critical payroll system. Analysts can investigate findings by asking questions in plain language, and Northstar's agents can then initiate fixes like installing endpoint protection or limiting access.
Security teams are drowning in data but starving for context.
Platform Integration
Customers can give external AI agents access to the graph through Model Context Protocol (MCP) to build custom security workflows. Northstar connects to over 70 enterprise security and IT products including Okta, GitHub, Workday, Microsoft Defender, AWS, and Google Cloud.
Leadership Background
Deeba co-founded Normalyze, which Proofpoint later acquired, and previously served as a senior executive at Qualys. His co-founder CTO Ed Rowe held the same role at Farmers Business Network and was SVP of engineering at AppDynamics.
Funding Plans
The startup will use the $7 million to develop its platform, hire staff, and expand its go-to-market strategy.
