GOG explores reviving physical PC game releases — digital storefront needs publisher approvals, has to figure out the logistics and legal challenges
Marcin Paczynski, business development and partnerships manager at GOG, revealed plans to bring back physical media for PC games.
Paczynski told GamesRadar+ that the company wants to give gamers more consumer freedom through tangible physical media.
He noted that GOG must navigate complex logistics and obtain additional publisher permissions to store and sell physical games.
The PC was the first major platform to abandon physical games, but recent moves by Sony and Microsoft to stop producing console discs have reignited the debate.
GOG aims to advocate for game ownership and preservation, complementing its existing GOG Preservation Program which ensures compatibility with modern hardware.
The company must now figure out the legal and operational challenges to make this vision a reality.
