Canton Strategic Holdings announced on October 29, 2026, that its shares will become the first tokenized U.S. stock, trading on TSV as early as November 2, while its native token, Canton Coin, has struggled to gain traction.

Canton Strategic Holdings (NASDAQ: CNTN) has taken a major step toward integrating traditional finance with blockchain technology. On October 29, the company announced that its shares will be the first tokenized U.S. stock, a move that could set a precedent for how securities are traded in the digital age.

The tokenized shares, managed by SEC-registered transfer agent Fairmint, will offer the same rights as the company’s traditional stock listed on Nasdaq. Trading is expected to begin on TSV, a platform dedicated to tokenized securities, as early as November 2.

This announcement comes on the heels of a busy week for the Canton Network, which has been attracting major institutional attention. The clearing house DTCC debuted its Tokenization Service with 20 participants, and Uber completed a pilot program involving the purchase of a tokenized money market fund from Franklin Templeton.

Despite these developments, the network’s native token, Canton Coin (CRYPTO: CC), has seen little movement. The token is trading at $0.097, up 2.1% over 24 hours but down 19.4% over 30 days, with a market value of approximately $3.88 billion.

Company Balance Sheet Weighed by Token Value

The performance of Canton Coin directly impacts Canton Strategic’s financial health. The company holds 3.71 billion CC, and the token’s decline below its average purchase price has resulted in a $23.7 million unrealized loss on its balance sheet.

This unrealized loss contributed to a net loss of $19.3 million in the second quarter, translating to 8 cents per share from continuing operations. The stock market has responded skeptically, with the company’s market value at $155 million compared to shareholders’ equity of $455 million.

Canton Strategic’s primary revenue stream comes from its “locking-as-a-service” offering, which allows Super Validators to lock coins in exchange for interest, a share of network rewards, and equity grants. In the second quarter, this segment generated $1.3 million, while the company’s role as a Super Validator added another $191,000.

The stock and the coin offer different ways to participate in the network’s growth.

Tokenized Stock Trades Burn Little CC

A key question for investors is how the tokenized stock trades will impact the Canton Coin ecosystem. CC pays for network “traffic,” which involves sending messages through its Global Synchronizer, but fees are based on the size of messages rather than the monetary value of transactions.

This means that large stock trades, such as those involving Uber or DTCC participants, do not necessarily lead to significant CC burns. In the Uber pilot, the company used bank money to acquire fund shares, with CC likely covering only minor traffic fees.

DTCC participants can also skip CC entirely by using its private Besu network. The company’s CEO, Mark Wendland, noted that the tokenized shares and the coin serve different purposes, but the current structure limits CC’s utility in high-value transactions.

Future Burns May Not Be Enough

The network has plans to increase CC burning in 2027, following the approval of CIP-0129 by Super Validators. Under this framework, dedicated synchronizers will burn CC for traffic instead of paying a licensing fee to Digital Asset, the company that developed Canton.

However, the network still mints more CC than it burns, and the upcoming volume discounts in the pricing proposal may allow larger users to pay less CC per transaction. The locking-as-a-service model could also reduce demand for CC, as participants can meet their requirements using coins the company already owns.

For Canton Coin to double from its current value of $0.097 to its peak of $0.194, a venue, DTCC, or a bank would have to make CC the asset that trades are paid in. The first test will come with TSV’s first CNTN trades on November 2, which will show what buyers pay with.

Until burning exceeds minting and CC becomes the primary asset for trading, the token’s prospects remain uncertain. The company’s pivot to tokenization has attracted significant attention, but the success of Canton Coin will depend on broader adoption of blockchain-based securities.
