Packers WR Christian Watson gets checked at hospital after scary injury, somehow returns to Lambeau Field
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson was transported to a hospital with a chest injury during Thursday's game against the Panthers but remarkably returned to Lambeau Field later in the contest.
Watson was having a standout performance against the Panthers, catching six passes for 100 yards in the first half. His biggest play came on a 53-yard reception from Jordan Love that set up the Packers for another score. However, the game took a concerning turn when Watson collided with Panthers cornerback Will Lee III and hit the ground hard.
The 27-year-old was slow to get up and eventually transported in an ambulance to a hospital near Lambeau Field for precautionary checks related to a chest injury. Lee also suffered a hamstring injury and was helped off the field, eventually needing a cart to leave.
Miraculous Return
In an extraordinary turn of events, Watson returned to Lambeau Field less than an hour after his injury. Cameras caught him running out of the tunnel back in full pads to a raucous reception from the home crowd. It appears Watson either never changed out of his uniform during his hospital visit or completed an extremely quick change before being driven back to the stadium.
Not that most fans doubt NFL players are tough, but absolutely nobody will be questioning Christian Watson's toughness and commitment to his team anytime soon.
Back in Action
Watson didn't just return to the sidelines - he reentered the game and immediately contributed. Love found him for a six-yard completion in Carolina territory at the start of the fourth quarter. While that drive ended with a Love interception, the Packers maintained a 27-13 lead into the middle of the fourth quarter with their star receiver back in action.
