Ripple’s RLUSD Earns Moody’s Investment-Grade Rating in Stablecoin Milestone
Ripple's RLUSD has become the first stablecoin to receive an investment-grade credit rating from Moody's, assigned an A2 long-term rating and P-1 short-term rating.
Jack McDonald, SVP of Stablecoins at Ripple, announced the development in a post on X, stating the assessment validates the "quality, transparency, and institutional-grade infrastructure" supporting the token. The rating arrives as Ripple has secured multiple new integrations for RLUSD this month.
Moody's Assessment
Moody's reviewed several aspects of the stablecoin's operations, including credit quality and liquidity of reserves, custody relationships, regulatory oversight, and operational controls. The agency also evaluated the redemption process, which requires eligible institutional holders to receive funds at par within two business days.
As RLUSD continues to grow, this kind of independent validation matters more than ever. Proud to see RLUSD helping set a new benchmark for institutional trust in stablecoins.
Expansion and Partnerships
Ripple recently partnered with Robinhood to use RLUSD across institutional settlement, treasury management, and digital asset services. The stablecoin is already available on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood, with a launch in the broker's main app expected later this year.
Cross River Bank integrated RLUSD into its banking platform, allowing customers to use the stablecoin for payments, cross-border transfers, and treasury transactions. Meanwhile, Standard Chartered launched institutional custody support for RLUSD through its Dubai branch and is exploring its use as collateral for trading products.
Rating Considerations
Moody's noted that RLUSD holders do not currently have direct ownership of reserve assets and the issuer is not bankruptcy-remote. The GENIUS Act, taking effect January 18, 2027, is expected to provide additional legal protections. The agency warned that weaker reserves, liquidity, redemption capacity, or operational controls could lead to a downgrade.
