Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090 appears to be winding down production, with at least one add-in-board partner unable to order the chip needed for new cards.

The supply chain has confirmed what Nvidia's public statements have not: the RTX 5090 is winding down in all but name. Hardware journalist Roman Hartung, known as der8auer, found that at least one add-in-board partner can no longer order the GB202 processor with 32GB of GDDR7 memory.

This is a critical development because, in prior shortages, backorder access remained open, allowing partners to plan manufacturing pipelines. For the RTX 5090, that mechanism no longer exists.

The ability to place a backorder is not merely a waiting mechanism; it is the instrument through which an AIB can plan a manufacturing pipeline at all.

Roman Hartung, German hardware journalist

Hartung reached AIB sources after earlier reports from hardware leakers claimed all future GB202 supplies were earmarked for Nvidia's RTX Pro professional lineup. The anonymous AIB partner he spoke with had not received an official end-of-life notice but confirmed it cannot purchase the chip kit needed for new RTX 5090 cards.

Cooler Orders Collapse

A second data point from a cooling component OEM further supports the production halt. Two of the OEM's AIB customers had substantially reduced their Q1 2027 heatsink orders for the RTX 5090 compared to Q3 2026 volumes.

By the time of reporting, the cooler supplier had received no orders for RTX 5090 heatsink assemblies for Q2 2027. Heatsink demand is a reliable leading indicator of production intent, as partners commit to procurement well in advance of card assembly.

A collapse in heatsink demand for the first half of 2027 implies manufacturers do not expect to be building RTX 5090 cards in any meaningful volume during that window.

Ecosystem-Wide Impact Unknown

It remains unknown whether the backorder freeze and ordering block apply uniformly to all of Nvidia's board partners. At least one other partner indicated that allocation conditions may differ across the ecosystem.

The investigation does not establish a single universal condition, but it establishes that at least one major AIB is now planning its operations without any expectation of receiving new RTX 5090 chip kits.
