GeForce RTX 5080 prices at US retailers now start at nearly $2,000, almost double Nvidia's original $999 launch price and around $800 higher than two months ago.

The cheapest verified online offer for the RTX 5080 stands at $1,999.99, putting the card in line with the RTX 5090's original launch price. Following the flagship GeForce RTX 5090, the GeForce RTX 5080 has become significantly more expensive in the US market.

An October 28 survey by VideoCardz covered major retailers including Micro Center, Best Buy, Central Computers, and Newegg. The survey counted only new cards with confirmed store inventory or active purchase options, excluding used, refurbished, backordered, and sold-out products.

Retail price variations

Micro Center offered the cheapest options, listing the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 Windforce SFF OC and MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Suprim Liquid SOC at $1,979.99 each, though only available for local pickup. Best Buy's PNY GeForce RTX 5080 Triple Fan OC at $1,999.99 was the cheapest online purchase option.

Prices varied significantly between models, sometimes reversing their usual positioning. For instance, Micro Center listed the Asus ROG GeForce RTX 5080 Astral OC for $2,079.99, while the lower-tier Asus GeForce RTX 5080 Prime OC cost $2,349.99—a $270 premium over the higher-end model.

Uncertain causes

Hardware analyst Josh Walrath noted on October 27 that the going price had climbed from around $1,200 to as much as $2,200 for some models over the past two months. The reasons behind this surge remain unclear, with Nvidia not publicly explaining the increases and board partners providing little information about GPU supply.

There is little indication of when prices might return to more typical levels, leaving consumers facing significantly higher costs for Nvidia's latest graphics cards.
