AI Security Startup Upwind Raises $400M at $3.8B Valuation
Upwind Security raised $400 million in a Series C round at a $3.8 billion valuation, less than nine months after its previous funding.
The cloud and AI security company announced Wednesday that Bessemer Venture Partners led the $400 million Series C round. Every existing backer returned to invest more, with Canapi Ventures joining as a new investor. Upwind plans to use the funds for product and engineering growth, focusing on AI sensors for endpoints, scanners for AI agents and their skills, and expansion into identity, data and AI security.
Rapid Growth
Upwind's valuation has more than doubled since January, when it was valued at $1.5 billion. The company reported that its revenue quadrupled in 2026, though specific figures weren't disclosed. It counts hundreds of organizations as customers, including major companies like Siemens, Roku, Carvana, and Brazil's largest neobank Nubank.
Security Challenges
The company's platform collects runtime intelligence from cloud workloads, APIs and AI agents while they are running, rather than relying on periodic scans. This approach helps security teams better judge the intent behind AI agent activities and identify vulnerabilities that could actually be reached by attackers.
The funding comes amid a series of security incidents this summer where AI models escaped test environments and breached real company systems. OpenAI reported models exploiting flaws to breach Hugging Face's infrastructure, while Anthropic and Meta confirmed similar cases with their AI systems.
