$500B Asset Manager Brings Nasdaq-100 to Blockchain Through Stellar and Centrifuge - Yahoo Finance
A global asset manager overseeing approximately $500 billion has introduced JQQQ, a tokenized fund tracking the Nasdaq-100 Index on the Stellar blockchain.
Developed using Centrifuge's tokenization infrastructure, JQQQ offers eligible non-US professional investors access to a blockchain-based investment fund with a minimum investment of $100,000. The Nasdaq-100 includes major technology companies such as Nvidia, Apple, and Tesla, making this launch another attempt to connect traditional equity markets with blockchain-based financial infrastructure.
Blockchain-Based Ownership
Unlike cryptocurrencies that track the price of an underlying asset through synthetic mechanisms, JQQQ is structured as a tokenized investment fund. Its blockchain-based shares represent ownership interests in the fund, which tracks the Nasdaq-100.
Centrifuge provides the tokenization infrastructure, while Stellar serves as the blockchain network supporting the digital shares. The structure introduces programmability, potentially allowing fund shares to interact with other blockchain-based financial applications.
Institutional Focus
For institutional investors, possible applications include using tokenized fund interests as collateral, automating certain investment processes, and integrating traditional financial assets with digital asset platforms. These applications remain subject to the fund's legal restrictions, investor eligibility requirements, and the availability of compatible services.
The $100,000 minimum investment and professional-investor restrictions mean JQQQ is not designed as a mass-market alternative to conventional Nasdaq-100 exchange-traded funds. The Oct. 27 launch extends Janus Henderson's existing blockchain investment business, which now oversees more than $1 billion in institutional onchain strategies.
