Ukraine: Melania Trump-brokered local ceasefire holds for second day
A US-brokered local ceasefire around the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in southern Ukraine has held for 30 hours without breaches, Ukraine's human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets announced on Wednesday.
The agreement, reached through diplomatic efforts led by Melania Trump, provides a critical window for civilians to escape the deteriorating conditions in Oleshky. The town had become virtually uninhabitable due to ongoing hostilities, trapping residents without access to basic necessities or safe passage.
Lubinets confirmed that no violations of the ceasefire have been reported since its implementation, marking a significant achievement in the otherwise volatile region. The temporary truce is set to expire on November 1, giving residents four days to evacuate safely.
International observers are monitoring the situation closely, with hopes that this local agreement could potentially serve as a model for future ceasefire negotiations in other conflict zones across Ukraine.
