Flavio Bolsonaro flees Brazil after election loss, US says will grant visa
US will grant visas to Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and his family after he fled Brazil following his presidential election loss, the Trump administration announced.
The announcement came one day after Brazil's Supreme Court ordered Bolsonaro to hand over his passports as part of a probe into alleged money laundering. Bolsonaro had initially refused to acknowledge the election results and sought their annulment after losing by more than 4.4 million votes.
US Visa Decision
A senior US State Department official confirmed that the Trump administration will issue visas to Flavio Bolsonaro and his family, allowing them to enter the US. The decision follows media reports that Bolsonaro had fled Brazil following his election defeat.
Election Controversy
Bolsonaro's party eventually accepted the election results, though US President Donald Trump reacted by casting doubt on the outcome, calling it "another rigged election." No evidence has emerged that the vote was marred by malfeasance, despite criticism of a last-minute extension of polling hours.
