Why This Team of Ninjas Is Tripling Down on Mining Bitcoin
Ninjas in Pyjamas Group has acquired a third batch of Bitcoin miners, increasing its capacity to 13.85 EH/s and targeting 195 Bitcoin monthly production.
The digital entertainment company behind the renowned esports team Ninjas in Pyjamas has purchased additional Bitcoin mining equipment, paying with over 247 million Class A ordinary shares. This transaction marks NIP Group's third major investment in Bitcoin mining infrastructure, significantly expanding its operations in the cryptocurrency space.
Following this acquisition, NIP Group now possesses approximately 13.85 EH/s of mining capacity, positioning itself among the largest publicly listed Bitcoin miners globally. This enhanced capability allows the company to target monthly production of around 195 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $2.8 million based on current market prices.
Strategic Timing
Hicham Chahine, founder and CEO of NIP Group, explained that the company deliberately chose to expand its Bitcoin mining operations while the market is cooling rather than during periods of intense competition. This strategic approach aims to maximize returns by entering when others might be exiting.
The latest investment increases NIP Group's previous monthly Bitcoin mining target of 160 by 35, reflecting the company's growing commitment to cryptocurrency operations as part of its broader digital entertainment strategy.
Future Flexibility
Despite the significant investment in Bitcoin mining, Chahine emphasized that NIP Group maintains flexibility to pivot toward artificial intelligence computing if it proves more profitable. The company continuously evaluates whether AI and high-performance computing workloads offer better returns than mining.
While Bitcoin miners cannot be instantly converted to AI data centers, Chahine noted that the existing infrastructure provides a solid foundation for potential future transitions. The company views this adaptability as crucial in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
When those workloads clearly beat mining on returns, consistently and not just for a week or two, that's when we may move capacity. If the numbers say shift, we shift.
Despite these strategic moves, NIP Group's stock has declined 40.7% since the Bitcoin announcement, reaching an all-time low of $4. Meanwhile, Bitcoin itself has dropped 2% to $79,820 over the same period, reflecting broader market volatility.
