Two men face UK national security charges following an incident near RAF Fairford, with police suspecting Iranian state involvement
British prosecutors have charged two men under the National Security Act following an incident near RAF Fairford, a US-used airbase from which strikes on Iran were launched.
British prosecutors announced Tuesday that two men have been charged under the National Security Act in connection with a September incident near RAF Fairford, an airbase used by US forces to launch strikes on Iran. Following the incident, US bombers were withdrawn from Fairford on security grounds.
Police Investigation
The investigation began after armed police stopped three suspicious vehicles near the Gloucestershire base on September 27, arresting five men. In total, seven men have been arrested during the inquiry.
Specific Charges
Mohmed A., 24, was charged with engaging in conduct likely to materially assist a foreign intelligence service. Counterterrorism police chief Laurence Taylor confirmed investigators believe the country involved was Iran.
Nouman E., 24, was charged with entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK on August 22. Both men were scheduled to appear in court later Tuesday.
