NVIDIA Board Partner Says No Notification About RTX 5090 Discontinuation, But Cannot Order GB202 With Memory Anymore - Wccftech
NVIDIA board partners report they can no longer order GB202 chips with 32 GDDR7 memory for the RTX 5090, despite receiving no official discontinuation notice from the company.
One more proof that NVIDIA isn't shipping enough GB202 chips for the GeForce RTX 5090 card. Despite NVIDIA's claims that the flagship GPU is still shipping, an NVIDIA board partner has revealed they can no longer order the necessary components.
Component Shortage
Popular German overclocker Der8auer contacted NVIDIA about the RTX 5090 availability and was told the GPU has "definitely" not been discontinued, even though the supply chain is constrained. However, an undisclosed NVIDIA board partner claims they cannot buy the GPU chip with memory from NVIDIA anymore.
they haven't been notified of the RTX 5090 discontinuation
The partner also mentioned they cannot place orders for the GB202 and 32 GB memory set anymore and are uncertain whether they can order these components again in the future. Previously, they were able to place backorders during supply constraints, which isn't possible now.
Shift to Professional Cards
This situation strongly suggests NVIDIA is allocating the GB202 inventory for RTX PRO cards instead of consumer products. A particular RTX 5090 cooler OEM has informed Der8auer about reduced cooler orders from two AIBs for Q1 2027, with no orders received for Q2 2027.
The evidence points to NVIDIA slowly removing the GB202 consumer card from the supply chain while focusing on the workstation and AI business market.
