28-Core Intel Nova Lake-S CPU Shows Promising Performance Boost in Leaked Benchmark - TechPowerUp
A new PassMark benchmark has surfaced showing the expected performance of Intel's upcoming 28-core Core Ultra 9 4970K BFC processor.
The benchmark, spotted by VideoCardz, lists the processor as part of the 'Nova Lake Client Platform' on a 'NVL-S Embedded CRB 1 Fab2 Board'.
The data reveals a massive jump in multicore performance, with the 28-core chip scoring 61,509 points.
This score places it at approximately 85% of the performance of the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
In single-threaded tests, the chip outperforms the current Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.
Performance Comparison
The leak also includes an eight-core variant, which scored 5,085 points in single-threaded tests.
The 28-core model falls short of the outgoing Intel Core Ultra 9 285K by 5,721 points in multicore performance.
The CPU beats out the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K on single-threaded performance but misses out on matching the outgoing Intel chip by 5,721 points or around 8.5%.
Uncertain Launch Timeline
Intel has not officially confirmed the benchmarks, and the processor is expected to launch in Q1 2027.
The material notes that there could be both driver and hardware improvements ahead of the launch.
A key concern is the memory performance, as the NVL-S scored only 2,523.4 in the Memory Mark benchmark.
This is notably lower than the ~3,500 score typically associated with the Core Ultra 9 285K.
