Jamie Dimon Hated Bitcoin: JPMorgan Now Expects BTC to Beat Stocks and Gold
JPMorgan, once led by Jamie Dimon, now predicts that Bitcoin could outperform stocks and gold over the next 10-15 years.
JPMorgan’s long-term CEO, Jamie Dimon, once called bitcoin a fraud, worthless, and a decentralized Ponzi scheme.
He even stated that if he were using the government, he would shut it down.
Fast-forward several years, and the banking behemoth he runs is putting traditional finance on public blockchains.
The bank has accepted BTC and ETH as collateral and predicts that the cryptocurrency could outperform stocks and gold.
From Hostility to Integration
Dimon’s criticism has evolved over time, with him advising investors to stay away from crypto and describing it as the fool’s gold of the future.
In 2023, he dismissed Bitcoin as a pet rock and claimed cryptocurrencies were associated with criminal activity.
Despite these public comments, JPMorgan’s business strategy was already moving in a different direction.
The bank launched JPM Coin, built Onyx blockchain infrastructure, and executed tokenized collateral transactions with BlackRock and Barclays.
It also invested in blockchain intelligence company TRM Labs and gave wealth-management clients access to crypto funds.
Direct Crypto Integration
JPMorgan has taken a significant step by allowing institutional clients to use BTC and ETH as collateral for loans.
The bank has worked with Coinbase to make crypto purchases more accessible to Chase customers.
JPMorgan Securities has served as an authorized participant for BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF.
On the blockchain side, JPM Coin is now available on Ethereum and Base, and the bank has launched tokenized money-market funds.
New Price Prediction
The bank’s report last week signals a major shift in its outlook.
While JPMorgan still believes BTC could be highly volatile, it predicts that the cryptocurrency will outperform large-cap stocks, REITs, and gold over the next 10-15 years.
The bank forecasts a 10% annual compounded return for Bitcoin.
