A close ally of Vladimir Putin has called on Donald Trump to order the assassination of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Kremlin crony Dmitry Medvedev, currently Putin's number-two on the security council, claimed Zelensky has done more damage to Trump's interests than US interventions in Venezuela, Cuba and Iran combined. He labeled the Ukrainian leader a 'festering green parasite' who was 'fleecing the Americans for enormous sums of money'.

Chilling demand

In a ferocious online rant on pro-Kremlin social media Max, Medvedev told Trump to 'summon the secretary of war and the CIA director and tell them to take care of this 'unfortunate little problem.' He added that 'the how, where, and by what means are irrelevant' to eliminating Zelensky.

Why, exactly, should the occupant of the Oval Office have any reason to like the twitchy little bloodsucker?

Ukrainian strikes

Medvedev's rant comes after Ukraine allegedly used British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles to hit a major defense plant in Yelets, Lipetsk region. The Energia plant, which makes chemical-based power sources for Russian weapons including Iskander-M ballistic missiles, was struck by three or four missiles, killing one person.

This was the second successive day Russia accused Ukraine of deploying Storm Shadows, following strikes on the Proton defense factory in Oryol, which makes components for multiple Russian missile systems. Both plants were sanctioned by Britain and other Western countries.

Diplomatic developments

The Kremlin's rhetoric follows a meeting between Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin in St. Petersburg. Witkoff thanked Putin for freeing American Stephen Hubbard and for lifting export controls on Russian diesel, which will soon ship to the US.

Witkoff brought 'ideas' for a possible peace deal with Ukraine, telling Putin he hoped trilateral talks could resume. Putin thanked Trump for his efforts to resolve the conflict, though he has refused face-to-face talks with Zelensky and intends to seize the rest of eastern Ukraine.

Before meeting Putin, Witkoff discussed the conflict with Zelensky in Norway. After their meeting, Zelensky said they had raised the possibility of a trilateral meeting to 'address the issues that only the leaders can do.'
