Freedom24 and agentic AI: 8 ways to use MCP with an investment account
Freedom24 has opened its Tradernet brokerage infrastructure to AI applications through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing clients to connect their investment accounts to AI tools including Claude Code, Cursor and Codex.
The connection gives an AI assistant access to selected portfolio, market-data, trading, reporting and alert functions. This represents a fundamental shift in how investors interact with their financial accounts, moving from navigating multiple screens to expressing investment intentions that the AI can translate into coordinated actions.
The integration allows investors to ask questions like "How much of my portfolio is invested in US technology companies?" or "Compare the recent performance of the three technology stocks in my portfolio," with the AI retrieving and presenting relevant information from their account.
The shift we are seeing is from navigating financial applications to expressing intent. Instead of working through separate screens and tools, an investor can tell an AI assistant what they want to understand or accomplish, and the technology can connect the right data and services behind the scenes.
Portfolio Management
Investors can use AI to understand their portfolio without manual navigation. The assistant can calculate exposures, identify holdings that account for most of the portfolio, and show how a portfolio is divided across sectors, markets or currencies.
For portfolio rebalancing, an investor can ask how far their current allocation has moved from a target, and the AI can calculate the difference and draft trade instructions for review. Importantly, each trading order requires client confirmation, ensuring investors remain in control of final decisions.
Data Integration
Tradernet's MCP tools include access to quotes and historical market data, making market information conversational rather than requiring investors to move between multiple screens. The AI can retrieve information about securities and combine it with the investor's account context.
Trading history can also be transformed into useful reports. Investors can ask the AI to "summarize my trades over the past year and group them by security" or "show me the positions I opened and closed most often," creating readable summaries for personal records or sharing with accountants.
Workflow Enhancement
The integration extends to alerts and daily workflows. Investors can use natural language to set price alerts, and when connected to other MCP-enabled services, these alerts can trigger actions across different applications, such as recording events in a spreadsheet or adding notes to an investment journal.
AI assistants can also prepare morning investment briefs, summarizing overnight moves in held securities, latest prices, and account alerts. This transforms the brokerage account from a destination to be visited into an information source that integrates with existing routines.
For technically minded investors, the most experimental use case involves building personal dashboards or connecting portfolios to smart home systems. With AI coding assistants, investors can describe the dashboard they want and have the AI generate the necessary code, potentially creating voice interfaces that answer portfolio questions.
