Jet Pilot – An open-source, native Kubernetes desktop client
JET Pilot, a free and open-source Kubernetes desktop client, has been released, offering a polished UI with keyboard-first workflow for managing clusters across multiple cloud providers.
Created out of frustration with commercial Kubernetes IDEs, JET Pilot offers a native desktop experience that balances keyboard efficiency with mouse-friendly interactions. The application is built with Rust and Tauri, ensuring it remains small and fast while providing a polished interface for managing Kubernetes clusters.
The IDE requires no account creation or telemetry, working directly with users' existing kubeconfig files and kubectl installations. It connects to cloud accounts on-demand, with credentials stored securely in the system keychain.
Multi-Cloud Support
JET Pilot aggregates clusters from every kubeconfig and cloud account into a single, color-coded list. It supports major cloud providers including AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, DigitalOcean, Akamai/Linode, Civo, Scaleway, Vultr, and Exoscale. Users can also manually add clusters by pasting, importing, or entering connection details.
The application provides production guardrails, requiring users to type cluster names before destructive actions and preventing changes to read-only clusters. It also supports multi-cluster and multi-namespace management, allowing users to work with multiple contexts simultaneously.
Developer Features
The IDE includes comprehensive tools for Kubernetes management, including a built-in terminal with preconfigured kubectl, a full YAML editor for object management, and a structured log viewer. It offers GitOps integration for Flux Kustomizations, Flux HelmReleases, and Argo CD Applications.
JET Pilot combines a keyboard-first workflow with a polished, mouse-friendly desktop UI — built with Rust and Tauri, so it stays small and fast.
Additional features include usage history charts from Prometheus or metrics-server, Helm integration with chart search across repositories, and access review capabilities. The application also supports operators and CRDs with printer columns for custom resources and specialized views for popular operators like cert-manager and Prometheus.
Installation and Availability
JET Pilot is available for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows (x64), and Linux (x64 and ARM64). On macOS, it can be installed via Homebrew from the JET Pilot tap, though it's no longer in Homebrew's main repository due to Apple's notarization requirements.
The application updates automatically and can download kubectl and helm when they're not on the system PATH. For macOS installations outside Homebrew, users need to remove the quarantine flag manually. Linux users can install via package managers for Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora/RHEL/openSUSE, or use the AppImage version. Windows users may need to bypass SmartScreen warnings during installation.
The project is open source with an MIT license and welcomes contributions. It's built with Tauri v2 (Rust) and Vue 3, with development following Conventional Commits and semantic-release for versioning.
