Mbappé double secures Real Madrid late victory at Barcelona after Raphinha leveller
Kylian Mbappé scored a late double to give Real Madrid a 2-1 victory over Barcelona at the Camp Nou, ending the hosts' nine-game winning run in La Liga.
The intensity of El Clásico returned to the Camp Nou on a night of late drama. With three minutes remaining, a brilliant piece of skill from Jude Bellingham found Eduardo Camavinga, who sprinted into the area and pulled the ball back for Kylian Mbappé to finish.
This strike, Mbappé's second of the match, secured a 2-1 victory for Real Madrid and ended Barcelona's record nine-game winning run in La Liga.
The win opens up the title race, which had been running away from Madrid, and provides a major boost for the team and their manager.
Intense opening
The match began with Barcelona dominating possession but failing to create clear chances. Madrid, however, were quick to counter-attack, with Arda Guler testing Joan García early on.
The game was characterized by high intensity, with full-backs Marc Cucurella and Dani Carvajal engaging in a physical battle against wingers Lamine Yamal and Guler.
Madrid's pressing forced errors from Barcelona's midfield, with Pedri and Rodri struggling to settle, while Fede Valverde began to open up the pitch with long diagonals.
Barcelona's response
Barcelona gradually imposed more control as the half wore on. They created several opportunities, with Raphinha and Anthony Gordon testing Andriy Lunin.
The first casualty of the intense battle was Xavi Espart, who was forced off inside thirty minutes. Alejandro Balde, making his first appearance of the season, came on and was immediately tested by Guler.
Madrid took the lead in the 41st minute. Gerard Martín's clearance hit Mbappé and looped into the net, giving the visitors a fortunate but deserved lead.
Second-half drama
Lamine Yamal took a short corner to Pedri, who slipped a clever ball into the Brazilian to strike low into the net.
The game became a back-and-forth battle, with both sides creating chances. Lunin made a series of outstanding saves, including a stop from Martín's header.
Madrid's defense, led by Aurélien Tchouaméni and Bellingham, stood firm against Barcelona's attacks, while Mbappé and Guler continued to threaten on the break.
Late winner
As the game entered its final stages, Barcelona pushed for a winner, but Madrid held firm.
Bellingham, who had been instrumental throughout the match, found Camavinga with a through ball. The Frenchman slipped past Pau Cubarsí and pulled the ball back to Mbappé, who slotted the ball past Joan García.
The late goal sent the away fans into ecstasy and left the Camp Nou in stunned silence.
