U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $773.5 million in outflows over two days after a $1.07 billion inflow run, leaving a preliminary positive $301.2 million for the week.

The U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF market saw a dramatic reversal in the October 19-23 trading week. While the funds attracted $1.0747 billion across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday recorded $635.6 million and $137.9 million of outflows respectively, erasing about 72% of the earlier gains.

The two negative sessions brought the five-day subtotal to a preliminary positive $301.2 million. Friday's data remained incomplete with one fund (HODL) still unresolved, meaning the final figures could change as more information becomes available.

Strong Inflow Week

The week opened with a concentrated rebound on October 19, when U.S. spot funds took in $526.7 million. BlackRock's IBIT alone collected $665.2 million, while Fidelity's FBTC and Grayscale's GBTC posted withdrawals. Tuesday added a modest $23.2 million, and Wednesday delivered another $524.8 million, broadening the positive total.

The distribution across funds was uneven, with Wednesday showing more diversity than Monday. Despite the strong three-day run, the sessions weren't equally strong, and the concentration in certain funds set the stage for the reversal that followed.

Significant Outflow Reversal

Thursday broke the run with $635.6 million of net outflows. Major negative contributions came from IBIT (-$254.1M), FBTC (-$217.5M), and ARKB (-$109.4M), with only MSBT posting a small inflow. Friday extended the reversal with $137.9 million of net outflows, including $110.3 million from IBIT and $31.8 million from FBTC.

BlackRock's Dominant Role

IBIT's five displayed sessions added to approximately $565.7 million, making it the primary driver of the week's positive net flow. The rest of the funds combined were approximately $264.5 million negative across the same period. This means the market's net positivity depended entirely on IBIT's performance, as other funds collectively withdrew more than they brought in.

The timing of the outflows coincided with broader market volatility. Thursday's outflow occurred during a risk-off session as stocks fell and investors moved toward safer government bonds. Friday saw U.S. stocks close lower while Brent crude settled at $116.72 and the 10-year Treasury yield edged up to 4.99%, reflecting ongoing inflation concerns.

What ETF Flows Actually Show

ETF flows measure net capital entering or leaving regulated Bitcoin-access channels through creations and redemptions. They don't represent every Bitcoin transaction, as trading occurs globally on exchanges, OTC desks, and in personal wallets outside the ETF dataset.

The flows also aren't a mechanical price forecast, as they can coincide with price movements in either direction. The week's clearest conclusion is that while the reversal was substantial, it didn't erase the entire available week's inflow, with BlackRock's IBIT providing more than the entire net gain.
